Special Mention

A few years ago we brought you the story of Sarah Sherwood who was achieving wonderful outcomes at Equestrian events

It’s wonderful to have this recent update from Sarah's mother Deb who has sent us this photo of Sarah at one of the biggest dressage events in QLD. Deb tells us that despite having FASD Sarah is becoming a fantastic dressage rider, competing against able and disabled riders in RDA,Special Olympics & Equestrian Australia events. Deb's advice to others is "find a passion for your kids and follow it."

What an amazing achievement Sarah! Congratulations from us all!

National FASD Strategy 2018 – 2028

Thank you to our readers that are taking part in the National FASD Strategy 2018 – 2028 consultation. We understand that for various reasons many of you are not able to attend on the day that it is happening in your state so submissions can be made by visiting: or email and let us know what your thoughts are. If you are not aware of the letter that went out is:

Dear stakeholders,

The Australian Government Department of Health is undertaking consultations to inform the development of the National FASD Strategy 2018 – 2028.

The Strategy will provide a national approach for all levels of government, organisations and individuals on strategies that target the reduction of alcohol related harms relating to FASD, reducing the prevalence of FASD in Australia and provide advice and linkages on the support which is available for those affected by the disorder.

The objectives of the National FASD Strategy 2018 – 2028 are:

  • strengthen efforts and address the whole-of-life impacts of FASD;
  • address the whole-of-population issues;
  • support collaborative cross sectoral approaches required to prevent FASD in Australia; and
  • provide information and support those living with and affected by the disorder.

All interested members of the public are now invited to have their say and submit a response to inform the development of the National FASD Strategy 2018 - 2028. We encourage you to distribute the weblink to your extended networks.

The consultation period runs from 1st August, 2017 and will conclude on the 4th September, 2017.
