NOFASD Australia is the National Organisation for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.
We are a family-driven organisation, dedicated to creating a powerful link between those with lived and living experience of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), and the experts—researchers, clinicians, and advocates— who are committed to driving meaningful change and providing support.
We stand as the essential bridge for support, knowledge, and connection for those navigating the challenges of FASD.
Mission
We are the peak body supporting people and families living with FASD across Australia. Together, we actively promote awareness, prevention, diagnosis and improved outcomes.
Our Vision
To prevent alcohol exposed pregnancies and improve the quality of life for people impacted by FASD in Australia.
Our Cause
The harms of prenatal alcohol exposure are pervasive, and an estimated 2-5% of children are currently living with FASD. In many cases the lifetime consequences can be tragic. To counter this impact, NOFASD Australia promotes an understanding that children and adults who live with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders can experience success with appropriate support and access to interventions.
NOFASD Australia, therefore, has a strong commitment to FASD prevention and support at all levels:
- Raise public awareness through community education and build a national carer support network.
- Offer training to service providers to build their capacity to better respond to families who may be at risk of an alcohol exposed pregnancy or who may be living with FASD.
- Offer consultation, advocacy and support for individuals and families whose lives are directly affected by FASD.
Governance
NOFASD Australia Limited is registered as a Public Company under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) and has held Health Promotion Charity status since 2007. We are also an Australian Registered Body (ARBN 155 519 449).
NOFASD Australia has also been endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).
NOFASD Australia has a large network of individuals and organisations interested in FASD and related issues and is always working to further develop its network, referred to as the NOFASD Australia Community. NOFASD Australia seeks to engage with its network on an ongoing basis on a range of important issues to ensure that the needs and interests of individuals and families living with FASD are fully represented.
Our objectives are set out in our Constitution.
A Code of Conduct applies to the Board, management, and staff of NOFASD Australia specifying practices necessary to maintain confidence in its integrity.
