Over the coming months, NOFASD Australia is rolling out new support programs to better support people living with FASD, their families and carers.
Future Ready
Starting high school is a significant step. For children with FASD, the increased cognitive, organisational and social demands of secondary school can feel overwhelming without the right supports in place.
This 6-week online group program (six, 90-minute sessions) starting on Thursday 7 May is designed for parents and caregivers of 9 to 12-year-olds preparing for secondary school. Together, we explore key changes in the high school environment, how FASD impacts transition through a brain-based lens, and how to prepare to advocate effectively.
Throughout the program, families progressively build a practical, personalised transition support pack to guide planning, communication and support during the move to secondary school. Places are limited to maintain a supportive and interactive group environment.
For more information and to register your interest in participating please provide your details (including the age of your child) at: https://www.nofasd.org.au/contact-us/ and indicate you are enquiring about the “Future Ready” program.
FASD Connect – Real talk. Real support. Real connection.
Connection and understanding makes all the difference when dealing with challenges and NOFASD’s new FASD Connect service is designed to provide a safe space each month for participants to share experiences, ask questions and seek support.
Whether you are an individual living with FASD, or a parent, foster carer or kinship carer supporting someone living with FASD, we welcome you to join a one-hour, online meeting to discuss your concerns. Attend selected meetings or add all the monthly meeting dates to your diary and plan to attend each month – that’s your choice!
The first FASD Connect meeting will be held on Thursday 30 April. Register your interest in participating now so that we can send you the link to join the online meeting. https://www.nofasd.org.au/contact-us/
Coming soon – FASD Navigators
As an extension to NOFASD’s established Helpline services we are introducing two FASD Navigator roles within our team. Connection to a FASD Navigator will be made when an individual or family requires more intensive support or follow-up. Our FASD Navigators will provide supportive guidance and help you to consider appropriate next steps and options at your own pace.
